The WMD Awareness Programme has specifically commissioned a series of six lesson plans to fit with the Citizenship Curriculum. They are aimed at the Key Stage 3 and 4, pupils aged 14 –16. The lessons plans each have a series of tasks with learning outcomes and supporting material for teachers. The lessons cover: - Global Issues - The importance of resolving conflict fairly and the world as a Global community.
- ICT – Information: reliability, validity and bias
- Debating issues – how to prepare for and take part in debate
- Conflict with Special Reference to Nuclear Weapons and other Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
- Looking at the significance of the media in society
- Democratic participation - Pupils work together to develop a democratic group decision-making process, exploring the democratic processes and systems, the qualities of leadership and responsibility, and how to ensure representation for diverse groups within society.
The curriculum: - Gives pupils knowledge and understanding about becoming informed citizens
- Helps them develop skills of enquiry and communication
- Develops skills of participation and responsible action
